We believe that strong relationships, high-quality teaching, experiential learning and consistent support are central to children’s success, and our staff are committed to continuous professional learning and reflective practice.

School Leadership

The school is led by the principal, who provides professional leadership, supports teaching and learning, and works closely with staff, the Board of Management, parents and the wider school community.

The principal supports:

  • A shared vision for teaching and learning
  • A positive, inclusive school culture
  • Clear communication and collaboration
  • The implementation of national curriculum and policy

Teaching Staff

Our teaching staff deliver a broad and balanced curriculum aligned with the Primary Curriculum Framework. Teachers use a range of evidence-based approaches to support children’s learning, including:

  • Explicit teaching and guided practice
  • Station teaching and team teaching
  • Differentiated instruction to meet diverse learning needs.
  • Active, collaborative and play-based learning where appropriate

Teachers work closely together to ensure continuity and progression for pupils across all class levels.

ASD Class Provision

Scoil Sinéad National School provides a special class for pupils with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Our ASD class offers a structured, supportive and nurturing environment that responds to pupils’ individual strengths and needs.

The ASD class team works collaboratively to:

  • Support communication, social interaction and emotional regulation.
  • Develop independence, life skills and confidence.
  • Provide structured routines alongside flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Support inclusion and participation in wider school life, where appropriate

Pupils in the ASD class are supported by a dedicated team of teachers and Special Needs Assistants (SNAs), and planning is informed by individual learning needs and ongoing assessment. Strong partnerships with parents and external professionals are central to this provision.

Support Teaching Team

Our Support Teaching (SET) team plays a key role in ensuring inclusive education for all pupils. Support is provided through:

  • In-class support and team teaching
  • Small-group or individual support where appropriate
  • Collaboration with class teachers
  • Ongoing communication with parents and carers

Support is planned carefully to build independence, confidence and meaningful progress for pupils.

Special Needs Assistants (SNAs)

Our SNAs provide essential care and support to pupils with additional needs, supporting access to learning and participation in school life.

SNAs work under the direction of the principal and class teachers and play a vital role in:

  • Supporting pupils’ wellbeing and regulation
  • Encouraging independence and social participation
  • Creating calm, supportive classroom and learning environments

Experiential Learning

Experiential learning is a core part of teaching and learning at Scoil Sinéad National School. Our staff believe that children learn best through doing, exploring and engaging meaningfully with their environment.

Across the school, experiential learning includes:

  • Hands-on activities and inquiry-based learning
  • Outdoor learning and use of the school environment
  • Practical problem-solving and collaborative tasks
  • Creative and expressive opportunities through the arts
  • Active learning approaches that support movement, engagement and motivation

These experiences help children develop critical thinking, communication skills, resilience and a love of learning.

Ancillary & Support Staff

Our school is also supported by dedicated ancillary staff who help ensure the school runs smoothly and safely each day. Their contribution is valued as an important part of the school community.

Working Together

Collaboration is central to our work. Staff meet regularly to:

  • Plan and review teaching and learning.
  • Share good practice.
  • Discuss pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Develop whole school approaches.

By working together, we ensure consistency, continuity and a shared commitment to the best outcomes for all children.

Professional Development

Staff at Scoil Sinéad National School engage in ongoing Continuous Professional Development (CPD) to enhance teaching practice, support inclusion, strengthen experiential approaches and respond to evolving curriculum and pupil needs.
